Transforming Lives in Sonbhadra Through Sustainable Community Development

For the past two years, Avaada Foundation has been working in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, to improve education, healthcare, livelihoods, and infrastructure across tribal communities. Through a holistic approach, we continue to create sustainable opportunities and improve the quality of life in project villages.

We have established ‘Avaada Community Development Centres’  in Chichlik and Khodaila with dedicated classrooms for after-school gap-learning sessions for many hours in an integrated space , an Advanced Computer Learning Centre, and a Stitching Centre for women and girls. Our teachers have been supporting government schools by strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, while free coaching classes, libraries with over 2,500 books, storytelling sessions, summer camps, holiday camps, and educational workshops have created a vibrant learning ecosystem.

We have improved school infrastructure by constructing kitchen sheds, in Adgud, Basuhari, dining halls, playgrounds, boundary walls, toilets, water stations, and installing inverters. We have distributed uniforms, shoes, sweaters, school bags, study materials, and 50 tablets with study material and recharged sim to students. Through Khel Mahotsav, we engaged over 700 children in sports. We have also supported 14 youth with two-year ITI scholarships and organized educational exposure visits to Prayagraj for 110 students and cultural visits for 120 villagers.

To strengthen communities, we have distributed bicycles to 250 students of Chichlik, Khodaila, Basuhari, Adgud , sarees to 1,500 women, sweaters to 1,200 women and girls, blankets to 900 families, and 2 sets of clothing and slipper sets to 150 Anganwadi children. We have trained 115 women in organic farming, organized a Tribal Fair attended by over 5,000 people, facilitated Social Security Camps, provided wedding assistance to 25 girls, and supported families during times of grief.

We continue to improve healthcare through medical camps, eye screening programmes, cataract surgeries, spectacle provision , menstrual hygiene awareness sessions, distribution of reusable sanitary napkins,  mosquito net distribution, fogging drives, nutrition support, and an ambulance-cum-medical van serving nearly 20 villages. Additionally, solar street lights and other infrastructure initiatives have enhanced safety, connectivity, and overall community well-being.

Together with the community, we continue to build a healthier, educated, and empowered Sonbhadra.
